Welcome to the Garden

Welcome to 2012 Intel DuPont Community Garden.  Our mission is to grow healthy food for local foodbanks, strengthen a connection between Intel and the community, all while experimenting, educating and promoting ideas for sustainable local agriculture.

IDCG began in 2010 with only the Intel employees working the garden and setting up the garden's non-profit status.  In 2011 IDCG invited the community to purchase beds and participate in growing food for local food banks.

Together the Intel employees and community members harvested 4700 pounds of fresh, organic produce and donated over 4200 pounds to food banks in Olympia, Lakewood, and Steilacoom.  We saw the construction of a commercial greenhouse and a shade pergola.  Intel salvaged and gave us an unused refrigeration case, which has helped ensure food safety as well as allow growers to harvest when it was convenient for them.   We also added 30 community-resident families to our group of growers; this now includes 26 beds tended by Intel departments, individual employees, and the Intel cafeteria catering company.  2012 will be an exciting year for us!

This blogsite is new for us; so give us a little time and we'll be adding plenty of photos, information and sharing our stories with you.  Thank you for joining in this journey with us!
